How to Practice
Follow these step-by-step instructions to get started.
You are annoyed by that one recurring thought?
You are annoyed by that unhealthy perspective on life or yourself?
You are annoyed by something, that comes around quite a few times per day?
You want to change something specific?
You want to change something quite unspecific?
Every time you think about or do something the way you want to, count one.
Important: those counts must be visible. Take a piece of paper and a pen, and put them into your pocket, handbag, or wherever you can reach them quickly.
This can also be a physical step counter, on a smartwatch, or wherever you can keep track of your counts easily.
Now imagine, every time you count one, your brain developed a new set of synapse connections. Those new connections and pathways represent the way you want to feel, to think, to act, to live. The more often you repeat this neurological imprint, the stronger this connection becomes.
It might sound very simple, yet it's so effective. Don't overcomplicate, and simply progress into your desired direction.
Enjoy every micro upgrade! In a sum this will become huge, the new you, like in compound interest.
Invest into yourself, and harvest your own happiness.
Example:
Desire: “I want to move freely and not be blocked by any negative thoughts regarding the HSP trait”.
Negative thought: “My flatmate is so loud in the kitchen, I will never be happy.”
New thought: “Yes I'm sensitive to sounds and that's fine. No one taught me how to deal with this. I'm using the best methods I can, and transform my environment so it works for me. I'll be much more happy in a bit."
This way you get your feeling of control back, and get more energy for the things that really matter to you.
Becoming active in situations where we usually tended to be passive is the key.
This counting technique can be done for even the tiniest things, like being slightly distracted and getting back on track.
Why It Works
Understanding the science helps you practice more effectively.
The more often we repeat the actions we want to have as routines or usual behavior, the more synapses with this information and representation of process will be established in your brain.
Making this a visible fun and game approach with counting, accelerates this.
Also, celebrating successes helps. And rewarding yourself.
Scientists say: “What fires together, wires together”.
So, the more often you connect each count with a positive experience, the more likely this new way of thinking or doing will become your new automatic response.
